Quiet and peaceful, this ship is waiting for it's final voyage. Nothing like a little burnt sienna to make the metal rusty. The boat itself is always a challenge and is just a matter of putting in the time and paying attention to the initial drawing and really mixing the colors correctly. The water requires a little more attention in that it has to be right to a certain extent and it must reflect it's surroundings. I really enjoy painting skies in a painting like this because of the freedom of the brushwork. Here, a very large ship has succumbed to the ravages of salt air and salt water and no one to care. This image is all about the loneliness of the ocean and how nature imposes it's stifling presence upon you when your out at sea and realizing how small you are. Fortunately, nautical images covers a lot of ground and includes just about everything that I do anyway.
